There are many concrete surfaces on residential and commercial properties that can settle and sink. Settled concrete can lower property values, cause trip hazards, and can cause structural damage. In the past, people would just remove and replace the old concrete, but this an expensive, messy, and time-consuming solution. Using a polyurethane foam to lift the concrete is a much better answer for a sunken slab.
The concrete lifting process is simple and efficient. After the concrete is inspected and we calculate the best way to lift the settled concrete, we will drill small holes (5/8″) in the slab. The polyurethane mixture is injected into the holes. When the mixture combines, it begins to expand. The foam fills the voids beneath the concrete and, once the voids are filled, the foam begins to lift the slab. The operator can lift the concrete to within 1/10″ of the desired height.
The foam not only fills the voids and lifts the concrete, but it also compresses any loose soil, making it more stable. The foam is hydrophobic, so it won’t erode and also seals the bottom of the slab. This prevents water from entering any cracks in the concrete and causing more problems later.
Once the slab is lifted to the desired height, the equipment is removed and the holes are filled. The curing time for the foam is around 15 minutes, so you can use the slab shortly after the concrete is lifted.
